City of Imperial Named #1 Safest City in California By Two Independent Agencies

#1 Safest City in California

The City of Imperial has once again been named the #1 Safest City in the State of the California by SafeWise. This is the second Safest City award Imperial has received. You may recall in February of this year, the National Council of Home Safety and Security also named Imperial #1. We are excited and honored to be the recipients of such recognition.

SafeWise was the first to name the City of Imperial as the #1 Safest City back in 2016. Now, they've done it again for 2017. Here is a glimpse into how they collect and report their findings.

"How We Chose the Safest Cities in California

To identify the fifty safest cities in California, we reviewed the 2015 FBI crime report statistics and population data. We eliminated all cities with fewer than 10,000 residents as well as any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI.

From there, we evaluated the remaining cities. We narrowed the list down based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) in each city. To level the playing field, we calculated the likelihood of these crimes occurring out of 1,000 people in each city." - source

In an email notification addressed to the Chief of Police Miguel Colon, Robyn Avery Media Relations Manager for the National Council for Home Safety and Secuity stated, "With national crime rates on the rise, we feel that it’s increasingly important for residents to feel proud of where they live and that cities like yours should be recognized. We hope that you'll share this good news with them and proudly display the badge on your website and/or wherever you feel appropriate."
