City of Imperial Opens Positions for New Community Development Director and Planner

The City of Imperial is currently recruiting for the positions of Community Development Director and Planner. The City is looking for a motivated individual who is a certified AICP to serve as the new Community Development Director. This position reports to the City Manager and is responsible for the development and administration of the Planning, Building and Safety and Engineering Division(s). The new director is expected, to exercise independent judgment, wisdom, common sense, and implement efficient and effective guidelines established by the City Manager. The new director must also function as a member of the City's management team and participate actively in addressing general issues of concern to the City.

The Planner, under the direction of the Community Development Director, conducts planning research and analysis on moderate to difficult, complex projects. The work requires independence in preparing planning studies and reports on short- and long-range, well-defined assignments and making presentations on such projects. Work may include assisting with the work instruction or project direction of lower-level professional and para-professional staff members. This is a journey level position.

These positions are currently held by Jorge Galvan, AICP. Mr. Galvan has accepted a position with the private sector. Galvan announced his resignation during the City’s last Regular Meeting of the City Council on Wednesday, April 19. Under the supervision and direction of Mr. Galvan the City has seen many projects come to fruition, such as the Downtown Improvement Project, Road Improvement Projects and the signalization of Aten and Dogwood Road, just to name a few. The City of Imperial is sad to see Mr. Galvan go, but we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
