Councilman P. Robert Amparano was elected to the Imperial City Council in November 2016 and was re-elected in 2020.

Councilman Amparano is a proud resident of the City of Imperial. He attended Imperial Valley College in 1991 with a major in Criminal Justice. In 1992, he became an Emergency Medical Technician for Gold Cross Ambulance Service and in 1993 became a Reserve Firefighter/ EMT for Imperial County Fire Department. In 1996, Councilman Amparano attended the California Department of Corrections Academy and was assigned to Centinela State Prison as a Correctional Officer. In 2005, he was hired by Imperial Irrigation District as a Zanjero and approximately a year later he lateraled to Regulatory and Emergency Services. He is currently an Emergency Services Coordinator II for the Imperial Irrigation District, and has been vital to Imperial Irrigation District, County of Imperial, and the City of Imperial in his role of Emergency Management.

In 2019 Councilman Amparano was unanimously voted in as Mayor for the City of Imperial. In his tenure as Mayor, Amparano was able to secure funding for the City of Imperial. These grants included funding for parks through the Department of Interior, police funding through the Department of Justice, and beautification funding through the Department of Transportation. 

Councilman Amparano is appointed to serve on behalf of the City of Imperial on various boards and commissions:

  • Police and Fire Commission
  • Imperial County Transportation Commission
  • Imperial County Local Transportation Authority
  • Imperial Valley Resource Management Agency
  • Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies
  • Southern California Association of Governments
  • California League of Cities, Imperial County Division 1st Vice President 
  • Imperial County Local Agency Formation Commission
  • Chamber of Commerce


Councilman Amparano is focused on improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods through protecting our parks, revitalizing and beautifying the Highway 86 corridor, developing a business friendly community, and to bring more commerce to the City of Imperial. Councilman Amparano is dedicated, devoted, and proud to serve the community that he and his family have called home for more than 18 years.
