111th Anniversary

The First City In Imperial County Turns 111

"Residents and community members alike joined the local city to celebrate the 111th birthday of Imperial, the first incorporated city in the Valley.  'It's a small community, but we like to think outside the box and move things forward,' said Imperial Mayor Mark Gran, while cooking up food during the city's birthday celebration and annual luau event held Friday evening.

On June 29, 2015 the City of Imperial City Council held a special workshop to review the 2015-2016 Fiscal Year Budget.  The budget was presented by Finance Director Laura Gutierrez, along with other City Staff.  "The goals for this year are to stay in the black and maintain a balanced budget" Gutierrez said.  Concerns were expressed regarding the ongoing water restrictions and their effect on the City's revenue stream. Gutierrez confirmed that the CA State mandated restrictions have indeed impacted the City's budget with a continued 22% reduction in water usage.  With department expenditures staying the same, it will make maintaining a balanced budget difficult but City staff feels up to the challenge.
